Do you need a break in your studies?

If you need to take a break from your studies, you can apply for a free term. You can be granted a free term once during your total tenancy period with us. During your free term, you are exempt from both the study requirements and the Student Union membership requirement for one semester.

How to apply for a free term

1. Check that you meet the criteria for a free term below.
2. Apply no later than 15 February for the spring semester and 15 September for the autumn semester.
3. Complete the application form for a free term.
4. Attach a transcript of records from Ladok showing that you met the study requirements during the semester before the semester for which you are applying for a free term. If your study results are not registered in Ladok, you need to attach a certificate from your higher education institution showing that you met the study requirements. The certificate must be issued on the institution’s official letterhead and signed by an authorised person.
5. Email the application and documents to information@sssb.se.
6. Your free term is approved only once you have received confirmation from us.

Criteria for a free term

To apply for a free term, you need to meet the following criteria:

  • your current tenancy agreement with us has been valid for at least six months when you apply
  • you are registered as living at your student home and have been for the past three months
  • you can provide documentation showing that you studied and completed at least 50% of full-time studies during the semester before your free term
  • you intend to continue your studies after your free term
  • if you apply for a free term for the autumn semester, the tenancy review conducted during the spring must be approved
  • if you apply for a free term for the spring semester, the tenancy review conducted during the autumn must be approved

After your free term

After your free term, you need to be able to show that you have resumed your studies in Stockholm and registered your Student Union membership again. This will be checked as part of our tenancy review.
