Cleaning tips

Here are some simple tips to help you keep your home clean. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for appliances, electronics and cleaning products.

Clean your keyboard

  • Disconnect the keyboard or turn off your computer before cleaning.
  • Gently turn the keyboard upside down to remove crumbs and loose dirt.
  • Use a soft, dry cloth or microfibre cloth to clean the keyboard.
  • If necessary, use a cleaning product designed for electronics. Never spray liquid directly onto the keyboard.

Clean your microwave

Regularly wipe the inside of the microwave with a damp cloth and mild cleaning product.

To loosen dried-on dirt, you can heat a bowl of water in the microwave for a few minutes. The steam will make the dirt easier to wipe away. Be careful when removing the bowl, as the water may be very hot.

Clean your oven

Allow the oven to cool completely before cleaning it. Wipe away loose dirt and use a cleaning product designed for ovens. Always follow the instructions for both the oven and the cleaning product.

Avoid using tools that could scratch or damage the surfaces of the oven.

Keep your dishcloth clean

Rinse your dishcloth after use and allow it to dry thoroughly. Wash or replace it regularly to keep it fresh.

Defrost your freezer

If your freezer does not have automatic defrosting, it may need to be defrosted when a large amount of ice has built up.

  • Empty the freezer and switch it off.
  • Place towels in front of and around the freezer to absorb the melting water.
  • Allow the ice to melt. Follow the freezer manufacturer’s instructions if you want to speed up the defrosting process.
  • Do not use sharp objects to remove the ice, as they may damage the freezer.
  • Once the freezer has been defrosted, you can clean the inside before switching it back on.

Remove candle wax stains

Allow the wax to harden and then carefully scrape off as much as possible. Choose a cleaning method that is suitable for the material and follow the care instructions for the fabric. Be particularly careful when using heat on delicate materials.

Get rid of fruit flies

Fruit flies thrive where there are food scraps and overripe fruit. To prevent and get rid of them:

  • Remove overripe fruit and food scraps.
  • Empty household and food waste regularly.
  • Clean surfaces, drains and other areas where food scraps may collect.
  • Store fruit in the refrigerator for a while if you have problems with fruit flies.
