Studentbarometer 2026
Stockholm remains an attractive city for students, but more students are uncertain about their future after graduation.
The Student Barometer 2026 shows that most students are satisfied with their housing, appreciate the quality of their education and see Stockholm as a city where they can fulfil their dreams. At the same time, uncertainty about the future is increasing. Two out of three students plan to stay in Stockholm after completing their studies, but the proportion who are unsure whether they want to stay has increased since the previous survey.
The survey also shows that finances, housing and opportunities to establish themselves in the labour market are key issues for many students. More student housing, shorter housing queues and a stronger student life are highlighted as important factors in making Stockholm an even better city for students.
The Student Barometer is a recurring survey examining students’ views of Stockholm as a student city. The survey is conducted every two years by Demoskop on behalf of Stiftelsen Stockholms studentbostäder (SSSB). The Student Barometer 2026 is based on responses from 1,289 students in Stockholm, approximately half of whom are SSSB tenants and half are students living in other types of accommodation. The report provides an up-to-date picture of students’ views on housing, finances, safety, confidence in the future and Stockholm as a student city.
