Together with Our Tenants, We Contribute to a Sustainable Future
Sustainability is an important part of our operations and something we work with throughout our organisation. Our ambition is for sustainability to be a natural part of our daily work and the decisions we make.
We think globally through the UN’s Agenda 2030
Stockholms studentbostäder wants to contribute to sustainable development. We therefore use the UN’s Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals as guiding principles in our work.
We have selected three overarching goals where we believe we have the greatest opportunity to contribute to social, economic and environmental sustainability:
- Goal 3 – Good Health and Well-being
- Goal 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth
- Goal 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities
We aim to reduce our climate impact
With more than 8,000 student homes, we have great opportunities to make a difference together with our tenants. Since 2015, we have actively worked to reduce our energy consumption and implemented several measures to improve energy efficiency. For example, we have installed solar panels, exhaust air heat pumps and wastewater heat exchangers in several of our properties.
We conduct climate assessments to map our greenhouse gas emissions and work to reduce them, particularly in the areas where we have the greatest opportunity to make an impact.
Another important area of our sustainability work is waste management. We work to reduce the total amount of waste while increasing the proportion that is sorted for recycling. We also want to work more circularly by increasing reuse. Some of our properties have reuse rooms where students can leave and collect items. We also work with reuse within property management by saving and reusing materials instead of always purchasing new ones.
Safety and social meeting places
As part of our social sustainability work, we aim to increase safety in our residential areas and create opportunities for our tenants to meet and socialise.
Several of our larger residential areas have local tenants’ associations that organise activities for students. Through activities and events, we also create more opportunities for students to meet and make new connections.
