Together with our tenants, we create a sustainable future
Thinking and acting sustainably is important to us at Stockholms studentbostäder and therefore we are now taking the step of integrating sustainability into the entire business. This means that sustainability goes from being a separate area to instead becoming a natural part of our daily work.
We think globally through the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
Stockholms studentbostäder wants to be involved and contribute to sustainable development globally. That is why we have chosen to use the UN’s Agenda 2030 and the global goals for sustainable development as a guiding light in our work.
To contribute in the best way, we focus on a few goals that we feel are driving us forward and where we can make the biggest difference in both social, economic and ecological sustainability:
- Goal 3 – Good health and well-being
- Goal 8 – Decent work and economic growth
- Goal 11 – Sustainable cities and communities
How we make a difference
Since we offer more than 8000 accommodations, we really have the opportunity to make a difference when we act. For example, today we only have electricity from renewable energy sources, so-called green electricity, in our properties. It has reduced our carbon dioxide emissions by 76 percent!
We have also begun the work of introducing food waste collection into all our areas. The goal is for all tenants to have the opportunity to sort their food waste by 2023. The food waste is used as biogas for buses, cars and as biofertilizer to fertilize arable land. For every kilogram of food waste, a biogas car can drive two kilometers and emit 73 percent less carbon dioxide than a petrol-powered car!
Sustainability work in an exciting development
Our sustainability work is in an exciting development phase. During the summer of 2020, the management decided to integrate sustainability into the entire business. We have come a long way with a new strategic plan and long-term goals that will give us even more effect from our sustainability work.
